Richard Jaworski's Obituary
Richard Jaworski, a proud veteran, community leader, and devoted family man, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain, Ohio. He was 94 years old.
Richard was born on March 5, 1929, in Lorain, Ohio, to John and Sophie(nee Bash) Jaworski. He attended Nativity BVM Elementary School, Hawthorne Junior High, and graduated from Lorain High School in 1947, where he was a proud member of the Class of '47-B. Richard spent one year in the Naval Reserves before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 during the Korean War. During his service, he was an instructor at Radio Mechanics School for three years at Scott Air Base in Belleville, Illinois.
After serving his country, Richard worked for the Lorain Water Department for 28 years as a supervisor in the laboratory and filtration plant. He then went on to become the custodian for three years at Hawthorne-Boone School and then nine years at Emerson Elementary. Richard was a dedicated member of his community, as evidenced by his lifelong memberships in various organizations, including Nativity BVM Church in Lorain, the AMVETS Post 47, American Slovak, Public Employees of Ohio, Lorain County Chapter of Ohio Retirees # 83, Bow and Archery Club, and the Ohio Archers.
In addition to his community involvement, Richard had a deep love for archery, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He was known for his sharp aim and steady hand, always hitting his targets with precision and accuracy.
Richard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rita (nee Dargo); three children, Mark (Marcie) Jaworski of Amherst, Jim (Denise) Jaworski of Amherst, and Darlene (Dave) Machnik, of North Royalton; grandchildren, Bryan (Maria) Jaworski, Erin (Jacob) Boucher, Kelli (Chris) Jaworski, Lindsay (Doug) Jaworski, Lauren (Tyler) Schlenbaker, and Ben (Kelly) Jaworski; great-grandchildren, Sam, Jack, Lou, Riley, Ryan, Laney, Charly, and Luca; brother, Robert (Florence) Jaworski; sister, Rita (Neil) Swartz; and sister-in-law, Betsy Jaworski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Jaworski; and siblings, Dorothy Turton, Veronica Under, Herman, Ralph, Daniel, John, Jerome, Joseph, and Harry Jaworski.
Richard Jaworski will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and dedication to his family and community will never be forgotten. The family would like to thank Mercy New Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to Richard.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 418, W. 15th. Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions in memory of Richard to Preserve Pulaski Park, 3376 Coopers Trail, Lorain, Ohio 44053. Checks should be made out to: Stephen W. Bansek, with memo marked Preserve Pulaski Park.
