Richard E. Lengyel's Obituary
Richard Emerick Lengyel, 75, passed away on August 3, 2014 after a brief battle with pneumonia. He was lovingly surrounded by his family. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years Carole Lee (nee Burrett) Lengyel; daughters Diane Marie (Warren) Skubinna, Denise Louise Lengyel, Deborah Katherine (Jim) Martin, and Kristi Lee (Tim) Lengyel; grandchildren Richard Brent (Amanda) Skubinna; and Megan Leigh Martin; sibling Mary Kay Bierek, and many loving nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Olga Lengyel.
Richard graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1956 and joined the Air Force at age 19. He traveled the world with his wife and daughters. His distinguished career included achieving the highest enlisted ranking of Chief Master Sergeant, a rank less than 1% of the military hold. He retired after serving his country in many capacities for more than 45 years, and he and Carole loved traveling and making a second home in Orange Beach, Alabama. He was incredibly intelligent and hard working and taught his girls to be passionate about education. Richard was the handiest of men, and delighted in building and fixing; from antique clocks, to old cars, to amazing summer gardens. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
A private service, with full military honors will occur in Orange Beach, Alabama at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Poor Clare Adoration Monastery
4108 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103-3728.
Arrangements are the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center. Online condolences may be left for the Lengyel family at www.dovinreberjones.com
