Richard E. Schneider's Obituary
Richard E. “Dick” Schneider, age 88, of Amherst, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Elmcroft Senior Living, Lorain.
He was born on July 23, 1927 in Lorain, and has lived in Amherst for about 60 years. He was a graduate of Lorain High School, and served in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he went to work as a jeweler and sales associate at his father’s jewelry store in Lorain, Pistel & Schneider. Dick also owned a small print shop before beginning his career at Lorain Products, where he worked until retirement.
Dick was involved with the Amherst Community Chorus and the Lions Club. He enjoyed wood-working, golfing, and bowling.
He is survived by his children; Leslie (Tom) Croyle, of Bay Village, Richard P., of Amherst, David E. (Martha), of Charlottesville, VA, James E., of Dublin, and Denis (Lee Ann Griffith), of Amherst, his 7 grandchildren; Susan, Tom, Trisha, Michael, Jeff, Annie, and Leah, 13 great grandchildren, and a brother, Phil, of San Francisco.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (nee Glick), in 2006, parents; Edward W. and Leah E. (nee Farris) Schneider, and his sister, Betty Stedman.
The family is holding private services. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Alzheimers Unit at Elmcroft Senior Living, 3290 Cooper Foster Park Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
