Richard Thompson's Obituary
Richard (Rich) LaVerne Thompson, 73, passed away on March 13, 2016. Son of Jeanette and Julius Thompson, Rich was born in Gary, Indiana and attended William A. Wirt High School, class of 1960, where he met his bride-to-be Margaret. He went on to earn a BS in Metallurgical Engineering in 1964 and a MBA, both from Purdue University, becoming a lifelong, finger-snapping fan of the Boilermakers. Richard moved his family to Amherst in 1973 where he and his wife raised their children and he called home until his death. Richard spent years working in the steel industry for La Salle Steel and Western Cold Drawn Steel where he was the Vice President. A former member of the Elyria Country Club, Rich shared his passion for golf with his wife and children.
Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years Margaret Thompson (nee Krieger); his children Tracy (Julian) Ringgold of Davis, CA; Terri (Steve) Findley of Denver, CO; Richard (Stephanie) of Grafton and Julie (Chris) Staveski of Lorain, eight grand children, his twin brother David and brothers James and Thomas.
Rich passed away while wintering in his Florida home in Hudson. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
A service will be held for Rich on Friday, April 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio.
