Robert J. Cecil Sr.'s Obituary
Robert J. Cecil, age 88, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Kingston of Vermilion. Born on October 3, 1935, in Bridgeport, West Virginia, to Charles Glenn and Goldie Ethel Cecil, Robert led a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army on October 14, 1952, where he served honorably until October 13, 1955. During his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal, reflecting his bravery and commitment.
After his military service, Robert enjoyed a fulfilling 30-year career at Ford Motor Company, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues. In retirement, he became a beloved handyman, always ready to help anyone in need. His hobbies included racing go-karts, camping, woodworking, and bowling, through which he forged many lasting friendships. Known for his love of coffee, Robert was rarely seen without his favorite mug, a cherished companion on all his adventures.
Robert's legacy continues through his children, Robert J. Cecil Jr., Randall (Diana) Cecil, Debra (Mark) Shiltz, and David (Lisa Norris) Cecil; his seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice; his parents, Charles and Goldie Cecil; and his daughter-in-law, Georgia Cecil.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral center. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
