Robert Lee McAbier's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Lee McAbier, age 85, of Elyria passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 following a brief illness.
He was born on May 6, 1935 in Bergholz, Ohio. He and his family moved to Elyria in 1951 where he graduated from Elyria High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Coral Sea (CVA-43) until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Bob was employed as an industrial engineer at Duffin Manufacturing and Nordson Corporation before retiring from Stanadyne (Moen).
He enjoyed reading, and spending time with his family. Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria.
Survivors include his children, James Robert and Kristin Ellen McAbier, of Elyria; siblings, Mary Smith, Dan Strebel, Bill Strebel, Perry Strebel, Wilma Adams, Dorothy Cutright; many nieces and nephews; and the family dog, Bear.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mildred “Millie” Mc Abier (nee Santu); mother, Gertrude Strebel (nee McAbier); sisters, Diane Boggs-Jirles, and Betty Patterson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Pastor Bill Mugnolo will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
