Robert Smaldino's Obituary
Robert J. Smaldino, age 75, of Avon Lake, formerly of Lorain passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Ames Family Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on March 9, 1938 in Buffalo, NY to Samuel and Dorothy (nee Niedziela) Smaldino. He graduated from Layfette High School in 1955. He enlisted in with the United States Army on October 30, 1955 and was honorably discharged on April 26, 1956.
He was employed in production control with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1994 after 36 years of service.
Robert was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Avon Lake, The Knights of Columbus, Italian American Veterans Club and the Per Niente Club. He enjoyed playing golf, handball and racquetball. Robert coached numerous CYO teams. He loved watching sports on television, especially the Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (nee Rositano); sons, Sam, of Avon Lake and Robert (Valerie), of Avon Lake; daughter, Debbie (Randy) Jacobs, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Sarah Kerley, Joanna Kerley, Renee Smaldino, Robert Smaldino and Gianni Smaldino; brother, John, of Cooper City, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Dorothy Smaldino
The Smaldino family will receive family and friends on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
