Robert Tomer's Obituary
Robert George Tomer, age 66, a resident of Lorain, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 21, 2012 while vacationing with his family in Southern Ohio. He was born on August 30, 1946 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Roscoe Tomer and Helen Tomer (nee Novak).
He was raised in Flushing, Ohio and a graduate of Flushing High School in 1964. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Okinawa in the Vietnam era. He then moved to Lorain in 1968 to work at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant and later retired from the Avon Lake Ohio Truck Plant in 2003.
George was a Homing Pigeon Racer for many years. He was passionate about Ford Muscle cars and owned and wrecked many Ford Mustangs through his lifetime. He followed all Cleveland sporting teams no matter how bad they were. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was the best Pap ever!
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Estherene "Essy" Tomer (nee Borkoski); two daughters, Konya (Robert) Nau, of Lorain, Ohio and Jodi (Matt) Schwab, of Willard, Ohio; four granddaughters, Taylor Nau and Cadence, Avery and Baylee Schwab; four siblings, Paul Tomer, Brenda Showalter, Linda Hogan and Tom Tomer; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his niece, Julie Hogan.
The Tomer family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made in memory of Robert to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Akron General Medical Center or the Lorain High School Band Boosters.
