Robert Allen Vargo's Obituary
Robert Allen Vargo, age 73, of Lorain passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on Sunday, October 30, 2022. He was born in Elyria, Ohio to William and Eleanor (nee Traczek) Vargo on November 15, 1948.
Robert graduated from Elyria High School in 1966 where he was a member of the tennis team. He had a passion for music and was a lifelong musician. He played in many bands, wrote and recorded music with the band the LYNX, including the songs, Beauty Is and Not Like It Used to Be. He was also the Co- Owner of the Star Trac Recording Studio. Robert also served as the Vice President of Sales for Cuyahoga Group/Canteen Cleveland.
Over the years he was a member of the Elyria Rotary Club, served as a member of the Lombardi Football Awards for the American Cancer Society, and served on the Advisory Board of the American Arthritis Foundation, and served as president of the area Easter Seal Society’s Board of Directors. He was one of the founders of the Amherst Baseball Association and was involved in the construction of the baseball fields at St. Joseph Church in Amherst.
He enjoyed fishing and collecting rare guns and held a black belt in Taekwondo. He was also a Level 1 Range Officer at Camp Perry. He loved his family dearly as they were the most important thing in his life.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maryann (nee Andulics) Vargo; son, Shawn (Amy) Vargo; daughter, Kimberly (Ross) Maenza; grandchildren, Zachary (Madison) Feakins, Kody (Lauryn) Bledsoe, Collin Vargo, Alexandrea Vargo, Aaron ( Alyssa) Bledsoe, Alyssa (Cory) Dryden, Kelsey Gonos, and Dawson Gonos; great-grandchildren, Emmalyn, Kaelyn, and Jace Bledsoe, and Alayna Dryden; brothers, Bill (Donna) Vargo, and Kenny (Juanita) Vargo; sisters, Brenda Leslie, and Gloria Vargo; brother-in-law, Larry Sweeney; and his kitty, Boo Boo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleanor Vargo; sister, Christine Sweeney; and brothers-in-law, Carl Leslie, and Tom Tubbs.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com
