Robert S. Vieta Sr.'s Obituary
Robert S Vieta Sr. age 92 of Lorain passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at O’Neill Healthcare with his family by his side. He was born on June 1, 1929 in Cagus, Puerto Rico to Salvador and Crucita (nee Fontanez) Vieta.
He was proud of his military service which took him from Puerto Rico to Panama where he served in Company C 65th. Infantry. Robert’s lifelong love of music was apparent to anyone who met him. If he wasn’t playing the piano himself, he was listening to music. After his service in the military was complete, he found his way to Lorain where he became its first Hispanic officer. He served his community as a Juvenile Detective for years. When he left the Lorain Police Department, he went on to work for Ford Motor Company as a pipe fitter. He retired from Local 425 in 2001 to concentrate on spoiling his family. He extended that kindness to friends and neighbors as well-even cutting their grass and shoveling their snow-always taking care of others. Robert was a very generous man and loved by anyone blessed to have met him.
He is survived by his children, Robert S. (Chris Kuncel) Vieta Jr., of Lorain, Grissobelle Lozano, of Cleveland, Conrad B. (Denise Beko) Smith, of Guthrie, OK, Kathleen A. Smith, of Tucson, AZ, Tammy J. (Bob, deceased) Bring, of Lorain, Anthony R. (Kristen Moore) Vieta, of Oberlin. Grandchildren, Angie Colon, Mark Vieta, Luis Lozano, Christopher Lozano, Christina Smith, Natalie Smith, Shalaine Wierzba, Miranda Lee Vrzic, Robert D. Bring, Olivia C. Vieta, and Michael A. Vieta; and 21 great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; parents, Salvador and Crucita Vieta; and his brothers, Pepe and Tito Vieta.
Private family funeral services were held at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center.
