Ronald J. Sauer's Obituary
Ronald J. Sauer, age 79, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain due to complications from covid.
He was born on November 24, 1941 in Lorain and is a Lorain High School graduate, class of 1960A. He was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame with the class of 1959 football team. After high school, he played football for the Lorain Arrows semi-pro team, from 1961-1963. Ron then began his career as a letter carrier for the Lorain Post Office, where he worked for 28 years before retiring in 1992.
Ron was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and leading the youth group. He was currently attending Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Lorain Historical Society, the Amherst Historical Society, the Lorain Roundtable group, as well as the Sandusky Bay Archaeology Society. Ron enjoyed golfing, bowling and watching sports on TV. His family knew him for being an avid collector of antiques and historical artifacts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne “Sue” (nee Quay), his children: Laura Woodings (John Witkowski), Wendy (Terry) Kosakowski, Kris (Dave) Workman, and Paul (Kelly) Ludwig, his grandchildren; Wesley Woodings, Candace (Zak) Demarco, Rachel (Bryan) Anderson, Nick (Sarah Novak) Kosakowski, Rebecca Kosakowski, Marshall & Max Workman, and Nathan & Austin Ludwig, and his great grandchildren: Hope & Zayden Demarco and Vivien Anderson.
Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (nee Bills), an infant daughter, Dawn, his parents: John & Evelyn (nee Kastl) Sauer, and his brother, Dale Sauer.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 28th, 2021, from 2:00 pm until the time of his memorial service at 4:00 pm, at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The Rev. Adam Davis, Pastor of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, will officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home will be following specific guidelines to ensure the safety of all visitors. We ask that you enter through our main entrance of the funeral center, please pay your respects to the family, and exit through our gathering center door. Face coverings are required, limited seating will be provided for the service to ensure that a six feet separation is maintained.
