Rosario "Jose" Rivera's Obituary
Rosario T. “Jose” Rivera, age 92, of Lorain, died on Monday, November 8, 2010 at New Life Hospice Residential Center of St. Joseph following a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 30, 1918 in Manati, Puerto Rico. He made Lorain his home after he was married and began working as a pipefitter at Lorain Works/US Steel. Following his retirement in 1974, he returned to Puerto Rico and resided there and in Florida for many years. In 1994, he came back to Lorain and has resided here since.
He served in the US Army during World War II.
Jose enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors, especially walking outside.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Altagracia Rivera, his daughters, Amparo Coleman, of Florida, Aida Meredith, of West Virginia and Gladys Mitcheff, of Lorain; his sons, Joseph, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Doningo Rivera, of Sheffield; his sister, Elba Medina, of Cleveland, and 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Valentin in 1982 and his parents, Domingo and Amparo Rivera and his brothers, Batista and Erasto Rivera.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Pastor Louis Kayatin of Church on the North Coast will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
