Rose Zahratka's Obituary
Rose Zahratka (nee Recznik), age 87, of Lorain, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake.
She was born on January 3, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio to John and Mary (nee Gildien) Recznik. She was a graduate of Lorain High School and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish, Lorain.
Rose was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in creating and keeping a loving home. She cherished her family dearly as well as anyone else who came through the door of her home. Rose truly enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother and liked to show her affections through her wonderful baking. When she was able to, she also enjoyed attending Mass.
Rose will be deeply missed by her children; Deborah (John) Strick, of Columbus, John (Beth) Zahratka, of Sheffield Village, Dr. Cynthia (Dr. Richard Kolanda) Zahratka-Kolanda, of Cape May, NJ, and Jennifer (Tom) Roth, of Lorain, her grandchildren; Dr. M. Wesley (Dr. Kathryn) Milks, Lesley (Jon) Cross, Susan (Chris) Hinz, Daniel (Dana) Satmary, John Christopher (Katie) Zahratka, Kevin Zahratka, Sophia Kolanda, R. Nikolai Kolanda, Dr. Jeffrey (Abby) Zahratka, Zachary Roth, and Michael Roth, her great grandchildren; Theodore, Jordan, Jillian, Elise, Broc, Annabella, Owen, Morgan, and Claire, her brother, John R., of Kent, and sister, Sally DeLuca, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John, in 2010, a daughter, Sharon, her parents, her sisters; Eleanor Nandori and Maryann Mlakar, and a brother, Edward.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, for a Rosary service at 4:00 pm. Visitation will follow from 4:30 – 8:00 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Prayers will be held the following morning, Wednesday, at 9:15 am in the funeral center, her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am, at St. Mary's Parish, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will then follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
