Roy R. Cochran's Obituary
Roy R. Cochran, age 90 years, of Vermilion, departed this life for the next, on Monday, July 12, 2021. His family was at his bedside, loving him through, until the end.
The kind heart of a good man beats no more. To many of his friends he was the most loving, kind and humble man.
Roy R. Cochran was born in Webster County, WV on August 23, 1930 to parents, L.W. and Blanche (nee Arthur) Cochran. He was the last of 7 children. He attended school in Webster Springs, WV. He then proudly protected his country by serving in the United States Navy on the U.S. Damato DD871, from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Shortly before entering the US Navy, Roy met the great love of his life, Donna Parker. Roy and Donna married July 20, 1952.
They welcomed their first son, Roy R. Cochran in 1954, when Roy was serving in the US Navy. Their second son, Richard L. Cochran, came along in 1958, and their final child and only daughter, Debra L. (nee Palmer) Cochran, completed the family in 1963.
As many of their friends and family also did in the mid 1950’s, Roy moved his young family North, to Lorain, OH, to find work. He secured a position at Ford Motor Company, working for them until he retired in 1996, after 37 years.
Roy and Donna spent many happy years traveling together with family and friends. They enjoyed bowling, attending events at the American Legion, as well as attending Roy’s annual Navy Ship’s Reunions with their lifelong friends.
Roy was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Donna (nee Parker) Cochran, his parents, L.W. and Blanche (nee Arthur) Cochran, his brothers, Denzil Cochran, Therrill Cochran and Junior Cochran, his sisters, Pauline Cutlip, Virginia Hicks and Maxine Cool, and by his granddaughter, Nicole (nee Cochran) Bell.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Roy R. and Pamela (nee Igo) Cochran, son, Richard R. Cochran, daughter, Debra L. (Les) Palmer, and granddaughters, Alicia Danielle Cochran and Jessica Cochran-Goffee (Terry Goffee). Others will hold him in their hearts forever are a special niece, Charlotte Gray and his beloved great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 18th, from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Roy’s burial will be on Monday, July 19th, at 2:30 pm, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
