Ruth Ann Cook's Obituary
Ruth Ann Cook (nee Kelovsky), 73, left this earthly world peacefully on Easter Sunday morning, April 4, 2021, with her husband Dennis by her side.
It would be wrong to say that Ruthie lost her battle with liver, kidney, and heart disease--she never stopped fighting for one day. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly are.
Ruth showed unwavering faith in God during her early life as a member of St. Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, OH. After marriage, she joined St. Peter Parish, Lorain, OH.
Ruth was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals and baking for her family and friends. She was also a big Cleveland sports fan and enjoyed attending games and watching from home. Win or lose – she was always rooting. She loved mentoring young ladies and as Girl Scout Leader, she shared her wisdom with many. Her soft spot was helping the less fortunate, especially children, which drove her to be a dedicated Christmas Angel Tree shopper and donator for many years.
Ruth had a diverse working career. She held positions working for Willow TrueValue Hardware and was a hairdresser at Corrine’s Styling Salon in Lorain, OH. After her children were older, Ruth pursued her personal dream of going to college and graduated from LCCC in 1991 alongside her daughter Lisa, earning an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science herself. While attending LCCC, Ruth completed an internship that later turned into a hired position as a secretary for William C. Skaryd and Company in Westlake, OH during many tax seasons.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dennis, her three children Lisa Kirkpatrick (Robert Cranford), Dawn Sommer (Glen Morse), Kevin Cook (Paula); her five grandchildren Micayla Parish, Dylan and Nathan Cook, Abigail and Lorelei Sommer; several cousins, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and her treasured Aunt Margaret Hellinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Elizabeth Kelovsky, sister Eva Marie Schmitz. and brothers Andrew and Daniel.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Ruth’s many medical teams, including the Mercy New Life Hospice staff who helped not only her but us as a family, and for all the prayers and support from family and friends.
We love you forever Vera!
