Sally Ann DeLuca's Obituary
Sally Ann DeLuca (nee Pullin), age 88, born on January 31, 1936 in Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Lorain Estates, after living her entire life in her beloved hometown. Sally was a proud graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1954, and later earned an Associate’s degree in Business from Lorain County Community College.
Immediately after high school, Sally worked as a teller at Citizens Savings and Trust. She later worked posting in the accounting department at Central Trust and eventually served as a Director for Goodwill Industries in Lorain for several years, from which she retired.
Sally and her husband Leonard DeLuca were the owners of DeLuca’s Bakery and the catering and event center DeLuca’s Place in the Park.
Sally was a dedicated and long-time member of St. Peter's Church where she and her husband were active participants. The couple sang in the church choir for an impressive 50 years. Sally's love of singing began in her youth, and she was even offered a full-ride scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Music; however, she decided to start a family instead. She took great joy in being a cantor for the church at Masses for several years. She was honored to sing at numerous weddings, funerals and other events with her beautiful and captivating voice.
Her talent extended to community theater, where she acted and sang in various productions, including those by the Workshop Players. Up until her death, Sally continued to share her gift of music by singing for residents at the assisted living and memory care units at Lorain Estates.
Sally was a longtime member of the Lakeland Women’s Club and the Red Hatters.
Sally and her husband Leonard loved to travel and took several international trips together.
Sally will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the Lorain community she served and entertained for so many years.
She is survived by her son, Vincent (Deborah) DeLuca, of Wakeman; daughter, Tracy (David) Escobar, of Lorain; grandchildren: Erika (Jason) Collins, Michael Reighley, Paul (Andrea) Reighley, Rachel (Louis, Jr.) Kayatin and Rebekah Reighley, Lauren (Dylan) Bair, Lexi (Jacob) First, Mallory (Tyrone) Lopez, Hannah (Chris) Lopez; great grandchildren: Hannah, Isabella, Elliana, Zachery, Owen, Emma, Louis, Benjamin, Milee, Royce and Brinley.
Sally was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 59 years Leonard S. DeLuca, her parents, Charles & Viola Pullin, as well as her siblings Charles Pullin, Sherri Gailey, John Recznik, Eleanor Nandori, Edward Recznik, Rose Zahratka and Marianne Mlakar.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Lorain Estates for the excellent love and care they provided for Sally.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 5 - 7 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received at St. Peter’s Church, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. In lieu of flowers or gifts please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
