Sandra Lynn Kohlmyer's Obituary
Sandra Lynn "Sandy" Kohlmyer, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and an extraordinary member of the Lorain community, passed away at the age of 77, after a 4-month illness on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
Born in Amherst, OH, Sandy spent most of her life in Lorain, OH, where she attended and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1964. Her commitment to education continued as she attended Lorain County Community College. Over the years, Sandy's career flourished, and she worked for 22 years for the Lorain City Schools. Starting as a secretary, she worked her way up to become an executive secretary in the administration offices of the school district. Her dedication and hard work had a lasting impact on countless students, teachers, and administrators.
Prior to her time with the school district, Sandy gained valuable experience working for the Lorain Telephone Company, Freuhauf Trailer Co, and the Morning Journal. Her professional journey showcased her strong work ethic and determination.
After retiring, Sandy and her husband enjoyed spending their winters in the sunny warmth of Ocala, FL. They cherished these retirement years together, making wonderful memories and basking in the joy of each other's company.
Sandy's faith played an essential role in her life; she was a 50 year member of the First Congregational Church of Christ in Lorain then more recently a devoted member of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Amherst after their merger. Within the church community, she actively participated in many committees and fellowship gatherings. Her commitment to her faith and involvement in the church reflected her caring and nurturing nature.
Beyond her work and church commitments, Sandy enjoyed her University Club engagements and book club get-togethers. She had a passion for gardening and took so much pride in her always-beautiful flowers. In her leisure time, Sandy liked to unwind with a good book, shop for anything and everything, and bask in the sun to maintain her coveted tan. She also liked staying up-to-date with friends and family through Facebook and the latest trends on Pinterest.
But above all else, Sandy was known for her kind heart and generosity. She selflessly offered her time and support to those in need and always put her family first. Her love for her family was immense, and her presence in their lives will be forever cherished and deeply missed. As we say goodbye to Sandy, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and her beautiful spirit will forever watch over us.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Henry “Pete” Kohlmyer, children; Ross (Amy) Kohlmyer, of Lorain and Renee Smith, of Amherst, grandchildren; Aiden Kohlmyer, Noah Smith, Carter Smith, Molly Smith and Nathan Smith, siblings; Claudia (Jim) Mullner, of Aiken SC and William, Jr. (Amanda) Clawson, of Mansfield, OH and her sister-in-law, Kathy Kohlmyer, of Wooster, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Beatrice (nee Hambley) Clawson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road Amherst.
