Santiago Rivera's Obituary
Santiago (Santo) L. Rivera, age 70, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at his home while under the care of New Life Hospice following a brief illness.
Born July 25, 1940 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1948 and has resided here since.
Santo worked in the rolling mills at US Steel for 30 years. He retired from there in 2000. Prior to that, he worked a few years at Fruehauf.
He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish and Sacred Heart Chapel and also was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Surviving is his wife, Irma; his son, Tony, his daughters, Maria (Nick) Ott, and Neida (Richard) Bryer, all of Lorain; 9 grandchildren; and 2 step-brothers, Gregory Jr., of Lorain and Jose Ferrer, of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gregorio Lopez, his mother Florentina Rivera and a sister Mary.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral center followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish. Rev. Curtis Kondik, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
