Sara Corcino's Obituary
Sara Corcino (nee Benabe), age 82, of Lorain, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 17, 2022. Born on June 24, 1939 in Luquillo, Puerto Rico to the late Javier and Maria (nee Rivera) Benabe. She came to Lorain to join her husband, Gerardo. Their union brought forth three children, Noel, Helen, and Myrna.
She was a faithful Christian, who served the Lord, through the House of Praise International Church and the Mision Cristiana El Faro. Although small in stature, she was blessed with a big heart, being admired by her acts of compassion and kindness towards others.
Flowers and plants adorned her house; inside and out. Music was always heard; either recorded or from her lovely voice, and the aroma of delicacies permeated the home. Sara was an extraordinary cook, always being asked to bring her specialties to family and holiday gatherings.
Sara loved all of her family and, in return, she was loved by all of them. Mami, Abuela, Hermana, Tia, Amiga; You will truly be missed.
Sara is survived by her son, Noel (Vivian) Corcino, daughters; Helen (Richard) Mercado, & Myrna (Mark) Jones, grandchildren; Brando (Priscilla) Corcino, Steven Corcino, Matthew (Paloma) Jones, Christopher (Janiece) Mercado, Miles (Monica) Jones, and Justin Mercado, great grandchildren; Sebastian, Flora, Noah, and Emilia, and brothers; Angel Benabe and Javier (Maria) Benabe.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerardo, in 2012, her parents, sister, Virginia Carrion, and brothers; Santiago, Julio, and Antonio Benabe.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 am at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Pastor Luis Martinez, of House of Praise International Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
