Sharon Kay Hambly's Obituary
Sharon Kay Hambly, age 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, under the compassionate care of Mercy New Life Hospice. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and the countless lives she touched through her nursing career.
Born on June 4, 1959, in Amherst, Ohio, Sharon was the beloved daughter of Ronald and Ruthann (née Palmer) Williams. She was a 1977 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School and continued her education at Lorain County Community College, where she earned her Associate of Science degree and fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse.
Sharon dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her nursing career at Lorain Community Hospital (now Mercy Regional Medical Center) and spent many years providing compassionate care to her patients. She concluded her distinguished career as a Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse with Fresenius Dialysis, retiring in 2024. Nursing was far more than a profession to Sharon—it was her calling. She approached every patient with genuine compassion, dedication, and a caring heart, earning the respect and gratitude of both her colleagues and those she served.
A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, Sharon's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She found great joy in cooking and was especially known for her delicious chicken paprikash and her treasured Christmas tradition of baking homemade kifli cookies for family and friends. Sharon also loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, finding peace and happiness in watching them flourish.
Above all else, Sharon's greatest joy was her family. She treasured every moment spent with those she loved, and her caring spirit, generous heart, and quiet strength will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her son, Paul Hambly; sisters, Deborah (Lewis) Heller and Barbara (Chad) Moss; son-in-law, Aaron Hopkins; grandsons, Tyler (Natalie) Hopkins and Jackson Hopkins; and former husband, Joseph Hambly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Amy Hopkins; her parents, Ronald and Ruthann Williams; and her nephew, Jeff Gula.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Drive, Amherst, Ohio. Services will be officiated by Pastor Paul Werner. Inurnment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Amherst.
