Socorro Cuevas' Obituary
Socorro Cuevas (nee Balderrama), age 81 of Lorain passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 under the care of New Life Hospice and the constant care of her children who were at her side throughout her battle with cancer.
She was born on October 4, 1937 in Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain High School. She was employed as a Pre-School Teacher for 22 years at Lorain Head Start.
Socorro was a woman who embraced her faith with her whole heart. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel and was involved with the Bible study group of the church.
A woman of many talents, she enjoyed interior decorating, floral arranging, ceramics, crocheting and gardening. Socorro mastered her cooking and baking skills and passed those talents onto her children. She was wonderful at nurturing her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her family.
Socorro is survived by her children, Annette Fuller, of Lorain, Josephine Cuevas Candelario, of Naples, FL, Geraldo Cuevas Jr., of Lorain, Judith (Carlos) Ceballos, of Lorain, Doreen Cuevas, of Lorain, Sylvia Cuevas, of Lorain, Denise Cuevas, of Lorain, Diane (John) Schrenkel, of Naples, FL, and Norma (Jeffrey) Yanke, of Kansa City, MO; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Esther Broadfoot, and Christina (Dr. Dwight) Reynolds; and brother, John Torres.
Socorro was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Geraldo Calderon Cuevas, in 2015; and her mother and Sofia Barba.
The Cuevas family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received on Friday, February 1st. from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Socorro to Sacred Heart Chapel.
