Sterling A. Miller's Obituary
Sterling A. “Butch” Miller, 69, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Born on December 22, 1943 in Lorain, Sterling grew up in Elyria Township and graduated from Elyria High School. He then attended and graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Lorain County Community College.
For 31 years, he worked as an inspector for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 3. Following his retirement in 1997, he worked 2 summers with Central Engineering. Then in 2006-2007 he worked for K.E. McCartney and Associates.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lorain and Masonic Lodge #552 where he served as a past master. He also was a member of Ohio Defense Corp – 5th Infantry Brigade.
Sterling enjoyed reading, especially Western stories, watching the History Channel and going fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth (nee Wajand); his daughters, Wendi Miller, of Lorain, Vicki (Mike) Buttermore, of Amherst, Stefanie (Jerry) Clifford, of Commerce Township, MI, and Melissa (James) Santiago, of Lorain; his grandchildren, Cierra and Christain Rivas, Gannon, Sheridan and Riley Clifford and Mateo and Diego Santiago; and his sister, Patsy (Jim) Mendlik, of Elyria Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling W. and Kathleen (nee McCracken) Miller; his sister, Kathy Lee and twin sister, Sandra Rae who died at birth.
The Miller family invites friends to join them at a memorial service on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Ave., Lorain, Ohio. Pastor Jimmy Madsen will officiate.
The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, handled the arrangements.
