He was born on June 18, 1940 in Lorain, Ohio to Steven A. and Stella (nee Sirotar) Luca. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and continued his education at Kent State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Steve also served in the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Ord, in Monterey Bay, California.
Steve was a dedicated, driven professional who loved his family and believed dearly in his community of Lorain and his Slovak heritage. A CPA by trade, he worked for the firm of Frank, Seringer and Chaney for over 40 years, serving as President until his retirement in 2009.
He believed in charity, giving both time and resources to the causes and issues that were important to him: Family, Community, his Faith and Ethnicity. Through his dedicated support of Lorain, he played an integral role in the development and revitalization of the Lorain waterfront, serving as Chairman of the Lorain Port Authority during the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was a founding member of the Port of Lorain Foundation, a 501(C)3 formed to preserve Lorain’s Waterfront and to undertake the historic restoration of the “Jewel of the Port”, the iconic Lorain Lighthouse. He was proud to be from Lorain.
Steve spent his life supporting the Slovak community, both locally as well as internationally, through his support of the American Slovak Club in Lorain as well as the many years of service as an Executive with the First Catholic Slovak Union of the United States and Canada.
When Steve wasn’t working or volunteering, he could be found in yard, tending to his beautifully kept landscape and lawn or relaxing aboard his boat located in the Port of Lorain.
