Susan Elizabeth Johnson's Obituary

Susan was a 1954 graduate of Lorain High School and member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Sheffield Village. Active in the community, Susan was a member of the Lorain Firefighter’s Ladies’ Auxiliary and spent many hours scorekeeping for “Lorain Police” her husband’s Lorain Little League team (Minor division) and organized many steak fry fundraisers for them. Susan always loved baseball.
Once all her children were in school she spent over 20 years working for Betzel Greenhouse as bookkeeper and office manager for them.
Susan was a great cook. Her stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, haluska, sausage and sauerkraut, and chicken paprikas delighted many stomachs. Not only a great cook, she was also a great baker and made fabulous desserts and pastries. She also threw a great party and countless hours of fun by many were had because of her parties.
When Susan wasn’t in the kitchen or planning a party, she was watching the Cleveland Guardians (Indians) or Cav’s basketball on tv. Never much of a football fan but through the coaxing of her children, learned to enjoy many Buckeyes and Browns games. She was steadfast in her political convictions and watched many hours of news programs while crocheting everything from cross bookmarks to afghans. Many homes of her family, friends, and care-givers have hand-made items gifted from her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert who passed away in 1993. She leaves behind her children, Sharen Johnson, Thomas (Daena) Johnson, John (Patricia “Patty”) Johnson, and Laura (Cameron) Bright. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Casey Johnson, Kevin (Marley Yarian) Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Colin Johnson, Skylar Bright, and Jack Bright; Great grandchildren, Russell Martin (Marty) Johnson-Sheppard, Kaiden Johnson, Genevieve Johnson, and Sierra Johnson; sister, Shari Myers; sister-in-law Karen (Johnson) Betzel, several nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friend, Lavern Hunady.
