Susan Lynn Thoroughman's Obituary
Susan Lynn (nee Kelley)Thoroughman, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with Cauda Equina Syndrome. She was born on August 16, 1971, in Lorain, Ohio, to Patrick and Donna (nee Holzhauer) Kelley.
A proud graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1989, Susan dedicated her career to the community, serving as a multi-site manager at BP Oil and later as Director of Operations at Advance America. Her professional accomplishments were matched only by her deep commitment to her faith as a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Elyria.
Susan's passions extended far beyond her work. She found joy in baking and cooking, often delighting family and friends with her culinary creations. Her love for crocheting brought warmth to many, as did her cherished moments spent camping by the fire. An unwavering fan of Cleveland sports, she especially cherished her time supporting the Cleveland Cavaliers. A true Disney enthusiast, Susan's heart was filled with the magic and joy that the brand represents.
Her love for her family knew no bounds. She was affectionately known by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Subie”. Susan adored her nieces and nephews—Zachary, Aaron, Joshua, Christine, Ariel, Sydney, and Benjamin—treating them as if they were her own. She had a remarkable ability to light up any room she entered, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Her big heart and willingness to help others will be sorely missed.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of ten years, Michael Thoroughman; her siblings Brian (Candy) Kelley, Colleen Sherman, Peggy (Timothy) Sherwood, and Shawn Kelley; and her beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is also mourned by her close friends Mary Kay McDermott, Kris Higgins, and Molly McDermott. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Donna Kelley; sister-in-law, Torrey Kelley; brother-in-law, Paul Sherman; and nephew, Aaron Kelley.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Parish, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, with Rev. Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
