Suzanne M. Whittaker's Obituary
Suzanne M. "Sue" Whittaker (nee Kalenits), a resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 7, 2024. She was born on September 14, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio, and was a proud graduate of Chaney High School. Sue furthered her education at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Youngstown, earning her nursing degree in 1970.
In 1982, Sue made Lorain County her home and dedicated over 30 years of her life to the field of nursing, specializing in surgery at EMH Regional Medical Center. Her commitment to compassionate care touched the lives of many, and her professionalism was a testament to her unwavering dedication to the well-being of others.
Sue's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted and faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Amherst. Throughout her years, she actively participated in church services alongside her husband, finding strength and solace in her relationship with the Lord. Even in the face of illness, Sue's spiritual devotion remained steadfast.
Family was of paramount importance to Sue, and she took immense pride in her daughter and cherished her role as a loving grandmother. Her joy in spending time with her grandchildren was evident, and the love she shared with her family was a source of warmth and comfort.
In her leisure time, Sue found pleasure in travel and literature. She had a passion for reading and a talent for counted cross stitch, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail.
Sue Whittaker will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and the positive impact she had on those around her. Her legacy lives on in the memories of friends and family who were fortunate enough to know this remarkable woman. May she rest in eternal peace.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Edward F., daughter, Kristan (Christopher) Schoen, of Amherst, grandsons Landon & William, sister B.J. Longbottom, of Columbiana, OH and brothers David (Mary) Kalenits, of Punta Gorda, FL & Chuck (Annette) Kalenits, of Berlin, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie & Barbara (nee Owens) Kalenits and her brother-in-law, Chuck Longbottom.
Sue’s family extends an extra-special “Thank You” to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice for the tremendous compassion and care that both, them, and Suzanne received.
