Thaddeus G. Chmura's Obituary
Thaddeus Gregory Chmura died peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 after living with cancer for more than a decade.
With his wife and partner of 41 years, Lorrie Bruno Chmura, he raised three children in Oberlin. He was a graduate of Borromeo Seminary High School & College. He received a master’s in rehabilitation counseling from Michigan State University. His interests included: fishing, boating, basketball, water activities, travel, breadmaking, reading, family and spirituality. Born in Cleveland in 1945, he was raised in a predominantly Polish community in Tremont and later Parma. Throughout his life, he kept close ties to his Polish ethnicity and Catholicism. He worked as an administrator at the Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities and for the Elyria City Schools along with volunteering for hospice, local refugee organizations and as a surrogate parent advocate for Lorain County students. He loved his late dogs: Bruno, Casey, Shadow and Bella.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: children, Steffani Baker (Alex) of Amherst, Matthew of Elyria, Nicholas of Costa da Caparica; siblings, Joyce Bouman of North Ridgeville, Joan Lobas (Darryl) of Old Brooklyn, Fr. Gary of Shaker Heights; grandchildren, Adeline and Mariana; and countless beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: parents, Theodore and Mary; sister, Frances Moran (Martin); and brother-in-law, Michael Bouman.
Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of Peace, 12601 Shaker Blvd., Cleveland on Tuesday, November 19th at 4pm. The mass can be attended virtually at www.OLPchurch.com/
Arrangements are under the care of Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst.
