Thomas Roy Daugherty's Obituary
Thomas Roy Daugherty, 71, of Lorain, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
Born on August 16, 1954, in Kanawha, West Virginia, Thomas was the son of Thomas Walter and Dorothy May (nee Robinson) Daugherty. He graduated from Southview High School in 1972 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Akron. He began his career as a history teacher, sharing his love of learning with students, before finding his true calling in social work. For many years, he served as a case manager with Lorain County Job and Family Services, where his compassion and dedication touched countless lives until his retirement in 2021.
Thomas had a wide range of interests and hobbies that reflected his curiosity and love for life. He enjoyed antique clocks, browsing flea markets and craft shows, working with computers, reading, and watching the History Channel and old western movies. Walks with his friend Mike and quiet evenings spent on the front porch with his beloved wife brought him the greatest joy. Intelligent and endlessly inquisitive, Thomas never stopped educating himself and was always eager to learn something new.
He is survived by his children, James Alex Schomer, William Michael Schomer, and Shelley Ann Likes; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 46 years, Darlene Mae (nee Olexan); and his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Daugherty.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Interment will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
