Thomas Paul Flaherty's Obituary
Thomas P (Tom) Flaherty passed away peacefully at his home on May1, 2025. After surviving a seven-year battle with cancer, he lost his life to heart failure.
Tom was born on February 14, 1953 to William J and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Flaherty in Lorain Ohio. He attended St. Mary Lorain school and graduated from Admiral King High in 1971. He attended classes at LCCC and graduated from Kent State with a B.Ed.
He spent several years in Tampa, FL, where he worked with troubled youth at The Children's Home of Tampa then moved back to Lorain where he completed his Microsoft certification. He worked as a computer technician at several local businesses before retiring in 2014.
In addition to his interest in computers, Tom was an avid gardener. As soon as the snow melted, he was working on the landscaping in his wonderful yard. He was also a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Guardians and Browns. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed the company of many pet dogs including Murphy, Arnie, Anna, Gus, and Scarlett.
Tom is survived by siblings Rosanne Jackson, Oberlin, Kevin (Patty) Flaherty, Cranberry Twp, PA, Margaret Wilkins, Elyria, and Mary Grm (Klaus), Lorain as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Patricia Petronski, William, Jr, and Sharon Flaherty, brothers-in-law, Timothy Wilkins and Ed Petronski, and a niece, Jenni Markey. He was followed in death by his niece and Goddaughter, Patricia Wallace.
The family will host a celebration of Tom's life on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2:00PM until 6:00PM at Beaver Park Yacht Club 5968 West Erie Avenue, Lorain.
The family suggests donations in Tom's name to Fido's Companion Rescue or the charity of your choice.
