Timothy F. Gargasz's Obituary
Timothy Francis Gargasz, 82, of Amherst, Ohio passed away on April 14, 2024 at his home, with his wife and daughter by his side.
He was born on September 2, 1941 in Lorain. He was a resident of Amherst for the past 41 years and was also raised in Amherst. He had also previously lived in Wakeman, Ohio for nearly 20 years.
Tim was a 1963 Graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts is History/Government and a Teaching Certification. He was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Bowling Green’s Track and Field Team. An accomplished athlete at Amherst Steele High School he played football, basketball and was on the Amherst track and field team qualifying for the State meet in the 120 Yard hurdles his senior year in 1959.
After graduating from Bowling Green State University Tim was a teacher in Westlake, Ohio and also sold insurance for a few years. He then began a career in the construction industry building hundreds of homes in Northeast Ohio before eventually owning his own construction company. After his career as a builder Tim was an accomplished salesman in the automobile industry where he was known for his honesty and integrity.
Tim and his wife Jean were active members in the Church their entire lives. Most recently at Trinity Church in Amherst, Ohio where they attended Sunday services and participated in couples bible study groups when their health and schedules allowed.
An avid outdoorsman Tim loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was also a master woodworker and carver. His hand carved and painted ducks were works of art and competitive with the best in the industry. He also enjoyed watching the Browns and Indians, completing the crossword puzzles in the paper daily, his numerous pet dogs over the years along with socializing over a cold beer.
His pride and greatest joy in life however were his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jean Marie (nee Abrahamowicz); son, Timothy Joseph (Kelli) Gargasz, of Powell, Ohio; daughters, Cherly Ann Gargasz, of Denver, North Carolina and Lynn Marie Gargasz, of Amherst, Ohio; grandchildren, Joseph Nicholas Gargasz, of Powell, Ohio, Benjamin Timothy Gargasz, of Powell, Ohio, Anna Johnnie Gargasz, of Powell, Ohio, and James Benjamin (Lydia) Engram, of Surprise, Arizona; great grandchildren, Peter Rey Engram, of Surprise, Arizona, Leanor Lynn Engram, of Surprise, Arizona, Josie Ann Engram, of Surprise, Arizona and Mae Sharon Engram, of Surprise, Arizona; brothers, Michael Gargasz, of Dawsonville, GA and Robert Gargasz, of Amherst, Ohio; and sisters, Marie Hall, of Berlin Heights, Ohio and Pauline Sherry, of Amherst, Ohio.
Tim was preceded in death by daughters, Deborah Ann Gargasz and Pamela Ann Engram; a grandson, Nicholas Ryan Gargasz; parents, Joseph Alexander & Frances Theresa Schaefer Woodings (nee Tarnosky) Gargasz; siblings, Edward Gargasz, Susan McConnell and Nancy Pfeifer.
