Timothy A. "Tim" Logar's Obituary
Timothy "Tim" Arthur Logar, a dedicated educator, loving family man, and active community member, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, following a prolonged illness. He was 82 years old.
Born on February 18, 1941, in Lorain, Ohio, Timothy was the son of James T. and Gertrude Logar (née Stipe). He began his journey through life in Lorain and left an indelible mark on the community he loved. Timothy graduated from Lorain High School in the Class of 1959, and he continued his educational pursuits at Bowling Green State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1963. He furthered his academic journey by attaining a Master's in School Administration from the University of Akron.
Timothy's passion for education was evident throughout his life. He embarked on his career in education within the Lorain City Schools, serving at Irving and Longfellow. He went on to become the Principal of Durling Elementary in the Clearview School District. From 1977 to 1979, he assumed the role of Principal at Midview Middle School. In 1979, he became a supervisor for the Erie County Board of Education, and from 1980 until his retirement, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Amherst Exempted School District.
A man of faith, Timothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He also held memberships in various organizations that reflected his commitment to community service and fellowship, including Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Lions Club, KSKJ, Amherst Educational Foundation, and the Amherst Rotary and Rotary International. Tim even served as President of the Amherst Rotary and was recognized with the Paul Harris Award, an honor given for his significant contributions to the organization.
Beyond his professional life, Timothy enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer, an enthusiastic fisherman, and a boating enthusiast. Traveling, especially on cruises, brought him joy, and he cherished his vacations in Fort Myers. Timothy was also passionate about LGB trains, loved to dance, and generously dedicated his time to volunteering. His most cherished moments, however, were spent in the company of friends and family.
Timothy Logar is survived by his beloved wife, Jane (née Kutza); his sons, Timothy D. (Kim) Logar and Matthew R. (Amy) Logar; his daughter, Patricia (Jon) Kramer; and his cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd Logar, and sisters Paulette Hayslett and Susan Hammond. Timothy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertrude; brothers, Tom and Dick Logar; sisters, Gertrude Gross and Margaret Kosonovich; sister-in-law, Nancy Logar; brothers-in-law, Mavis Hayslett and Bud Hammond; and his first wife, Janice McDowell.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, located at 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Closing prayers will be offered on Friday, October 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral center, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, officiated by Rev. Father Timothy O'Connor, Pastor. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Timothy Logar to the Amherst Educational Foundation or Rotary International, organizations that were dear to his heart.
Timothy Logar's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the students he inspired, and the community he served.
