Vaughn V. Campbell's Obituary
Vaughn V. Campbell, 90, passed peacefully December 14, 2024 in Downers Grove, Illinois surrounded by his family. Vaughn was born in Nashville, Ohio September 17, 1934. He graduated from Big Prairie (OH) High School in 1952 and Ashland University in 1956. Vaughn was a resident of Lorain and Amherst for nearly 60 years.
After college Vaughn took a teaching position in Lorain where he met his wife Elaine (nee Karney) during their first year teaching. They were married June 22, 1957. Vaughn spent his entire career working in Lorain City Schools from 1956-1984 as a teacher, principal (Emerson, Jane Lindsay and Masson Schools) and administrator. He was named Ohio’s Exemplary Principal of the year in 1978 by the Ohio Association of School Administrators, one of his proudest achievements. Following his retirement, he spent nearly 20 years in River Ranch, Florida.
Vaughn is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine; son Kerry (Deb) Campbell of Wyncote, PA; daughter Kimberly James of Geneva, IL; daughter Karen (Tony) Sterling of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren - Jacob Campbell of Basel, Switzerland; Bradley Campbell of Hermosa Beach, CA; Kaitlyn (Andrew) Withams of Aurora, IL; Nicholas (Abby) James of West Dundee, IL; Collin James of Cincinnati, OH; Spencer and Ella Sterling of Raleigh, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Esther (nee Spencer) Campbell; sister Vivian (Alex) Nagy; and Viola (Michael) Stavole.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of his memorial service at 11:00 am at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
