Virgel R. Zanick's Obituary
Virgel R. Zanick, age 70, of Kingston, TN and formerly of Vermilion, OH, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his home.
He was born on June 25, 1947 in Elyria, Ohio to John and Vera (nee Loper) Zanick. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He enlisted with the United States Navy on December 6, 1966 serving his country in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on February 5, 1971.
Upon returning from serving his country, he worked for US Steel. He then went on to join the Carpenters Union for 6 years. Virgel became part owner of Ceiling Specialties and founded Northern Ohio Lumber and Timber Company. He successfully owned and operated several other small businesses.
Virgel was also a Charter Boat Captain on Lake Erie. Fishing and boating was his passion. He also served as the Commodore of the Beaver Park Yacht Club.
As an accomplished and talented carpenter, he built his last 2 homes as well as helping others in need with his talent in carpentry. He thoroughly enjoyed his craft.
Virgel will be greatly missed by his family and all who loved him. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, sincere and optimistic gentleman.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra M. (nee Preiss); son, Scott (Beth) Zanick; daughter, Dr. Suzanne M. Ellis; grandchildren, Corbin C. Zanick, Landen R. Zanick, Isabelle M. Ellis, and Isaac R. Ellis; sisters, Joyce A. (Russell “Bud”) Johnson, Ruth L. (John “Jack”) Liptok, and Brenda M. (John) Heisler; mother-in-law, Mae M. Preiss; and his beleved dog, Sweet Daisy Mae.
Virgel was preceded in death by his father, John Zanick ; and his mother, Vera H. Wyszynski; and his father-n-law, George W.Preiss.
The Zanick family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 6th. at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) Rev. Father Ron Brickner, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, OH on Saturday, January 6th. at 2:30 p.m.
