Virginia M Gabrie's Obituary
Virginia “Ginny” Gabrie (Mudrock), 75, born January 2, 1947, in Lorain, Ohio passed away on March 31, 2022, after a courageous 9 1/2-year battle with cancer, and its many side effects. Although saddled with many health issues for the last dozen years, she never let it interfere with life and her love of family.
She attended St. John’s Elementary School, Admiral King, graduating in 1965 and attended Bowling Green State University. Virginia worked various jobs. She worked in the offices of Columbia Gas, both Amherst and Lorain, Lorain Metropolitan Housing, and Lorain National Bank. While at the bank, she received the President’s Award on two different occasions.
Volunteering was a large part of her life. She served on the Greater Cleveland Catholic Diocese School Board as well as serving on the Board of the Lorain County Free Clinic. She was a shopper for Mary Lee Tucker, Second Harvest Food Bank Helper, and was President of Lorain St. Mary’s School Mothers Club for several years, also helping in the Office and Convent.
Event planning, decorating inside the house for the holidays, especially Christmas brought her great pleasure. Virginia had countless friends. Numerous hours were spent watching the family’s many sporting events for the past 50 years.
Most of all, she loved the sun and swimming pool and always had an amazing, natural suntan. Ocean cruises, trips to Florida, Las Vegas, out of state Casinos, as well as family functions to Michigan, provided great enjoyment.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dennis “Gabe”; son Greg (Terri), of Amherst; daughter, Susan (Kris) Plottner, of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Courtney, Gehrig, and Grant Gabrie, Julia Toro, and Kristopher Plottner; and great-granddaughter, Camilla.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Mary Mudrock; and brothers, Jerry and Gene “Pudge” Mudrock.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2022, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4th. at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Virginia to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital of Southern Care Hospice of Norwalk.
