Wanda Smith's Obituary
Wanda L. Smith (nee Lyons), age 84, of Vermilion, passed away, Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain after a brief illness.
She was born on July 23, 1927 in Birds Run, Ohio to Jesse and Lula (nee Sarchet) Lyons. Wanda moved to Lorain in 1945 and resided in Lorain until moving to Vermilion in 1994. She was a graduate of Massillon High School, home of the "Tigers".
Wanda was employed by the Lorain City Schools. She began her career with the school system as a secretary for the School Board Office and then became the secretary at Admiral King High School from the day the school opened. She later transferred to the food service department until retiring in 1992. She was very proud of her affiliation with the Lorain City Schools Secretaries.
Her Irish Heritage meant everything to her. She was a member of the Aqua Marine Swim Club in Avon Lake for 30 years. She loved second hand stores, yard sales, fishing, the outdoors and traveling to Las Vegas twice a year.
Wanda is survived by her sons, Michael A. (Lynn) Smith, of Sullivan, OH and James (Sandra) Smith, of Amherst; grandchildren, Carolyn (Eric)Marchisin, Amy Smith, Aaron Smith and Amanda Smith; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Smith;sisters, Constance (Jim) Green, of Arizona and Linda (Jack) Conrad, of West Lafayette, OH; sister-in-law, Margie Lyons, of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Albert; brother, James Lyons; sister, Jeanie Hugel.
The Smith family will receive family and friends on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Funeral Center, Pastor Greg Sellers, Pastor of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
