Willa Deane "Deanie" Hawkes' Obituary
Willa Deane Hawkes (Deanie), age 86 of Avon passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. She was born to the late William and Lillie (Edmonds) Lane on April 12, 1934 in White Pine, TN.
Deanie’s family moved to Ohio when she was 16 where she attended Vermilion High School. She worked in retail at Kline’s, J.C. Penney, and Dillard’s. Deanie was active in several churches during her life. She served as a fourth grade Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, and mentor. Deanie’s favorite ministry was being a grief counselor. She was a regular guest on the radio broadcast, “Hope 4 U”, sharing how the loss of her husband, son, and brother shaped her faith.
Deanie’s passion was her love for family and friends. She always called her husband, John, the love of her life. Together they traveled across the U.S., making their home in Lorain with their daughter, Tammy. Deanie will be remembered for her Southern hospitality, empathy, and generosity. She touched everyone she met, leaving a legacy of faith and kindness.
Deanie is survived by her daughters Tammy Bosley (Ron), Sharron Froehner (Al), and LaVonne Johnson (Lester); three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Deanie requested a simple service. The family wishes to thank all who cared for her during her last days, especially the staff in Porter Pavilion at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. A private graveside service will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
