William Boyce's Obituary
William Charles Boyce, age 89, of Amherst, died on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at St. John West Shore Hospital following a short illness.
He was born on March 10, 1921 in Amherst to the late George and Elizabeth (nee Irvine) Boyce and resided in Amherst his entire life.
He served in the US Navy during World War II with the 78th Seabee. He was with the Construction Battalion and honorably discharged on December 7, 1945.
Bill worked as a machinist for 30 years at Bendix in Elyria, retiring in 1980.
A member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he was proud of his many years of sobriety. He was a licensed Ham Radio Operator and assisted the County years ago with Emergency Alert and Preparedness. He also was a life member of the Battalion Reunion Organization for the 78th US Navy Construction Battalion. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna (nee Pittak); his sons, David Allen, of Aiken, South Carolina, Phillip Charles, of Elyria, William George (Sun) of Crestview, FL, John Patrick (Jackie) of Amherst; daughters, Aileen “Lainie” (Kenneth) Maslinski, of Vermilion, and Patricia Ann (Robert) Hill, of Avon Lake; his grandchildren, Matthew Boyce, Jeffery Boyce, Christina Boyce, Steven Boyce, Emma Hill, Maxwell Hill, James (Mitch) Maslinski, Christina Maslinski and Angela Maslinski; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George A. and a sister, Jean A. Boyce.
Private services will be held for the family.
