William E. Day, Sr.'s Obituary
William E. Day, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 24, 2016, while under the care of New Life Hospice, after a lengthy illness.
William, or “Ed” as he was called by his friends and family, was born on October 5, 1928 in Kimball, West Virginia. He served 2 years in the United States Army before settling himself and his family in Lorain 63 years ago. William retired from US Steel in 1986. He continued to participate in the community as a minister of the Gospel and regularly attended Sunday Services. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
William is survived by his seven children; Lucy Wright, Doris Paul, Carol Wright, Wilma Kingery, Panzy Carper, William Day, Jr., and Alexander Day, his wife of 16 years, Jacqueline (nee Lafferty) Day, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and his brothers; Robert and Marcus Day.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Geraldine (nee Roberts) Day, his father, Alexander Day, mother, Pearl (nee Miller) Painter, and his brothers; Alex, Mack, Thomas, and Clark Day.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11:00 AM. Rev. Matt Jones, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, where full military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Honor Guard. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053, or to Love Extended Food Pantry, in care of Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
