Dear Mrs. G and entire family,

I so love you guys. Heard of Coach G's passing way too late...so sorry. What a guy. You all have shared in raising us Amherst kids (especially the St. Joe's gang) either in the classroom, football field, and community in general. We didn't lose Coach G. He merely went on to solidify the pillar that he truly is in our minds, hearts and spirits. Thanks Coach. And Mrs. G, you are a pillar as well. You together, created a balance for us all that was so lovingly felt but rarely spoken of. Oh yes, he will be missed and I pray peace to you all, but more, he will be embraced in a new way. A way that he so deserves, timeless, pure and golden. Thanks again coach for your love, humor, discipline and ability to reach us where we are...you knew us well.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilles have touched so many lives in our community. Together they have taught us the importance of family, friends and community...the young, the old, and everyone in between. This verse seems to capture this spirit, 1 Timothy 4:12 - Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Now it's our turn to carry on this legacy.

To all the Gilles family: Accept my condolences on the loss of Coach Gilles. I was an 8th grader on his first CYO team at St. Joe. He taught me a lot about competing and, more importantly, life's possibilities. I know he was a wonderful family man, and he always found time for all those people who were a part of his life.
