William Joseph "Bill/Coach" Koeth's Obituary
William Joseph “Bill/Coach” Koeth born on December 15, 1924 to John and Anne (nee Friedl) Koeth passed away on August 4, 2022 at the age of 97.
He was raised in Cleveland the 10th of 11 children. He enjoyed talking about going to League Park near his grandmas and watching baseball games with Babe Ruth as one of the many players.
He joined the United States Navy after his 18th birthday and served in World War II on the USS Colorado. In 1946 he married the love of his life Madeline Gallagher and were married 73 years before her passing in November of 2019. The raised a family of 4 children, Elizabeth Jacobsen (deceased) Tom, Dennis (deceased), Judy (Sam) Robles, and Jennifer.
They joined St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in 1952 and became very involved with the parish maintenance and other activities with the church. He coached CYO Basketball and helped coach the grandkids baseball teams.
He would always help anyone in need and taught his family how to build and repair things which they still utilize to this day.
He contributed greatly to the St. Vincent De Paul Society by working the food bank and doing home repairs for those in need.
He retired from the City of Cleveland Water Department at 70 years old. After retirement he enjoyed playing softball on the Huff & Puffers League for 20 years until he was 90 years old. He enjoyed camping for over 50 years. He was a Hospice Volunteer for 15 years. He enjoyed a good life and was active until recently.
He leaves to cherish his memory 10 grandchildren, Joshua (Erin Finnegan) Robles, Tara (David) Ramos, Jacob (Nikki Brown) Robles, Jesse (Brandell) Koeth, Toby (Angie) Koeth, Michael (JoElle) Koeth, Nathan Jacobsen, Ryan Jacobsen, Adam (Brooke) Jacobsen, and Jaime Zubrick who preceded him death; 13 great-grandchildren; 7 step- -great-grandchildren; and his granddog, Newman.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Edward Smith, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
