William J. "Bill" Recknagel's Obituary
William J. "Bill" Recknagel, 72, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 25, 2025. He was born on June 28, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to Wilbert A. and Helen (nee Ojenka) Recknagel.
Bill graduated from Maumee High School in 1970 and continued his education at Ohio Northern University, graduating in 1974. During his time at ONU, he was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He built a career as a buyer for WL Baumler Company Inc.
An outdoor enthusiast, Bill was a longtime member of the Beaver Creek Hunt Club, where he cherished camaraderie with fellow members. He had a passion for hunting, particularly turkey hunting, and was an avid woodworker. He also enjoyed watching sports, following the weather, and officiating basketball games as a referee. Known for his thoughtfulness and generosity, Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy (nee Curry) Recknagel; his daughter, Stacey (John Maroney) Recknagel; his nieces, Jamilyn (Greg) Foster and Jennifer (Todd) Perkins; his nephews, Jeff (Jane) Turski, and Jimmy (Shelly) Turski; sister-in-law, Susy Boulton; and nephew, Richard (Lisa) Boulton; as well as many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert A. and Helen Recknagel; his sister, Barbara Turski; and his brother-in-law, Jim Turski.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Visitation will continue on Monday, February 3, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral center. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Twp.
