William Joseph Stanton's Obituary
William Joseph Stanton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at his home in Amherst, Ohio. He was surrounded by the care and support of Hospice of the Western Reserve. William, known to many as Bill, was 79 years old.
Bill was born in Lorain, Ohio, to William Henry and Leona Stanton (nee Summers). He attended Elyria High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1963. After completing his education, Bill embarked on a fulfilling career that touched the lives of many in his community. He served as a dedicated Police Officer for the city of Elyria, retiring in 1994 after years of committed service. In addition to his law enforcement career, Bill also worked as a barber for an impressive 59 years, bringing joy to his customers and fostering lasting connections.
Bill was an active member of St. Peter Church in Lorain, where he found solace and strength in his faith. Beyond his religious affiliations, he cultivated numerous passions and interests throughout his life. He found great pleasure in playing golf and bowling, and he particularly enjoyed engaging in the 66 card game with friends and family. Bill was an avid reader of the Elyria Chronicle and a devoted fan of both the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Guardians. He cherished the companionship of his two beloved dogs, Buddy and Gina, and he frequently visited the MGM Northfield Park for entertainment.
Bill's greatest source of joy was his family. He shared 48 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Mary Ann Stanton (nee Monia); children: Kris (Ron) Trail of Alexandria, VA, Kelly (Paul) Stanton-Herbstritt, and William M. (Kathleen) Stanton of Lagrange. Bill was a cherished grandfather to Brandon, Brady, Callye, Megan, and Samuel, and great-grandfather of Reagan, Ozzie, and Elliot.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Postle, and his siblings Bonnie (Richard) Edelman, Alice (Jack) North, and Jack Stanton. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by his family and friends.
