Xavier Hertzig's Obituary
Xavier “Tony” Hertzig, age 66, of Brownhelm Township, died unexpectantly on Monday, January 17, 2011 at his home.
Born on September 19, 1944 in Lorain, he graduated from Admiral King High School in 1963. He lived most of his life in Lorain, living the last 15 years in Brownhelm Township.
Tony worked as a technician at General Motors in Elyria, until it’s closing, and then transferred to the plant in Parma. Working there for 40 years, he retired on June 1, 2006.
Having a passion for automobiles, he spent many hours working on and restoring cars throughout the years. He enjoyed kayaking and working out and regularly riding his bike. An animal lover, he had many pets, most recently his dog, Bonny.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Juliann (nee Toth), his daughters, Carol Hertzig-Jaykel (James), of Rochester, NY, and Dawn Marie Sklarek (Thomas), of Lorain; his mother, Bertha Hertzig (nee Trelka), of Lorain; his grandsons, Vincent, Donavin, Tony and Erik Sklarek; and his sister, Sandy Helms (Bill), of Tampa, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Hertzig and his brother, Richard Hertzig.
The family invites friends to join them at a memorial mass on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
