Zenon Roman Kniahynyckyj's Obituary
Zenon Kniahynyckyj passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2023 surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and cherished memories. Born on April 15, 1932, in Pidhaitsi, Ukraine, Zenon was the beloved son of Reverend Yaroslaw and Lubomyra (Kobrynska). In 1951, he immigrated with his family to the United States, embarking on a new chapter in his life filled with promise and opportunity.
Zenon's devotion to his faith was evident through his active involvement in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lorain, Ohio. As a dedicated councilman, Master of Ceremonies, and Bingo caller, he tirelessly served his faith community. He found joy in music and lent his voice to the harmonious melodies of the Dnipro Choir in Cleveland, Ohio. Zenon possessed a zest for life and loved dancing, gardening, and sharing morning coffee with his beloved wife of 63 years, Hildegard.
A veteran of the United States Army, Zenon served his country during the Korean War as a translator and intelligence analyst. After his distinguished service and honorable discharge from the United States Army, Zenon studied mechanical design at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio. Zenon worked in General Electric’s engineering department at its Nela Park campus in East Cleveland, Ohio for 30 years and retired from RIDGID in Elyria, Ohio.
Husband to Hildegard (Kobilanski), father to Roman(Mary), grandfather to Lily and Luka, brother to Bohdan(Vera) and sister Roma Hayda. Zenon was predeceased by his parents and brothers Emanual and Stephan.
The family will receive friends at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, located at 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road in Amherst, Ohio on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Panachida services will be held on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 9:00 AM at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral Home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church with Reverend Canon Steven M. Paliwoda officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, located at 3038 Charleston Avenue in Lorain, Ohio. These contributions will honor Zenon's unwavering dedication to his faith and support the community he held most dear.
