Anthony Coppola's Obituary
Anthony J. Coppola “WA8FTW”, age 95, of Amherst, formerly of Fairview Park, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home under the care of New Life Hospice.
Anthony was born on March 27, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio to Modestino and Anna (nee Rose) Coppola. He was a 1934 graduate of New Haven High School in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Yale University in Connecticut for 1 year.
He enlisted with the United States Army on February 19, 1944 serving his country as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 5, 1946.
Anthony worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. He was a Ham Radio Operator and lifelong member of QCWA Cleveland Chapter #1 and the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Jr. (Ann) Coppola, of Green River, Wyoming; daughters, Margaret (David) Little, of Bay Village and Gloria Ann (James) McGranor, of Amherst; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Coppola (nee Cioffi), on February 19, 2011; parents, Modestino and Anna Coppola; sister, Mary Boyle and his brother, Victor Coppola.
The Coppola family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. Rev. Lawrence Martello, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
