Carl P. Travee, 99 years of age, passed away on November 16, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio until moving to the Youngstown Ohio area in mid-2016, following the passing of his wife Roberta. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Carl was born in Bedford, OH, on September 5, 1923, the son of Pietro and Rosina Trave, and was step-fathered by Pierino Marcucci following Pietro’s death in December 1923. His childhood was shaped by both the Italian traditions of his upbringing, and the lessons of growing up during the Great Depression. He graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1942B, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army.
Carl served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 387th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, attached to the 5th Armored Division, credited with all major battles and campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Alsace, and Central Europe. His division was part of General Patton’s 3rd Army, and Carl was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, European Africa Middle Theater Ribbon, World War II Ribbon, and was also a member of the American Legion Post 30. Carl was also an active member of the 5th Armored Division Association.
Carl met his lovely wife Roberta (nee DiLuca) in 1952, while on a trip to Italy visiting family, and the two were happily married for 64 years, until her passing in 2016.
He was a U.S. Steel Corporation retiree with 40 years service at No. 3 Seamless Hot End Mill in Lorain, working tirelessly to enable a college education for his 3 children, until retiring in 1985. He was a former member of United Steelworkers Local 1104, and enjoyed gardening, yard work and caring for his house. In his final 5 1/2 years, he enjoyed the companionship of the wonderful staff and residents at Marian Assisted Living Center in North Lima, OH.
He was an active parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in Lorain, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a loyal Minuteman Volunteer, doing handy work at the church until later in life.
Carl was preceded in death by his birth father Pietro (1923), beloved mother Rosina (1951), foster father Pierino Marcucci (1969), loving wife Roberta (2016), son Peri (1982), sister Viola Giancaterino (2014), brother Bill Marcucci (2016) and son-in-law Michael Decker (2005).
