Carol Ann Butchko's Obituary
Carol Ann (Abrahamowicz) Butchko 79 of Wakeman, Ohio went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She became God’s newest Angel while listening to a Polish favorite “My Melody of Love” with her youngest daughter by her side.
Born in Lorain, Ohio, Carol lived the purest of childhoods with her younger brother Jan and late parents John and Julia (Zalenski) Abrahamowicz. She graduated from Clearview High School and went on to achieve her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Bowling Green State University. A long time admirer of Helen Keller, Carol’s dream of working with speech and hearing impaired children became a reality through her career at Lorain City Schools.
Carol was married for 48 years to her high school sweetheart Sidney Paul Butchko before his passing in March 2014. Together, they raised three children, Greg, Paula and Kim who were blessed to have the most amazing and loving mother. Carol put her career on hold to create invaluable memories of playing Scrabble, reading favorite books like ‘Gift Bear for the King’, and baking gingerbread cookies. As Carol became a grandma to seven grandchildren and one great-grandson, she enriched eight more lives with her giving heart.
Carol always put others first. As much as her kindness touched the lives of others, Carol’s life was truly touched by the kindness of God. She loved going to Bible study and had a strong connection with Christ. Carol would want her friends and family to know that while her life on earth has ended, her true life is just beginning.
Precious memories of her will remain in the hearts of those she loved: her brother Jan Abrahamowicz and his life partner Midge Stafford; her children, Greg (Jennifer) Butchko of Amherst, Paula (Dan) Stallard of Newburyport, MA, Kim (Jim) Eibel of New London; her grandchildren, Jake, Dannin, Macey, Jillian, Lucas, Weston and Carter; her great-grandson Fletcher; and her cousin and best friend Jeanie Gargasz.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Paul Butchko; her parents, John & Julia Abrahamowicz; and her ‘parents-in-love’ Paul & Sue Butchko.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Private family interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers family suggest contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
