Catherine Amelia Dickerson's Obituary
Catherine Amelia Diller Dickerson, age 90, of Amherst, passed away
peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Kendal of Oberlin. She was born
March 21, 1934 in Allentown, PA. She was of Rawson, OH and resided in
Amherst since 1967.
Mrs. Dickerson loved being an educator and taught elementary school in
Findlay, Ashland and Amherst, for a total of 37 years before retiring in
1993. Additionally, she substitute-taught in Ashland, taught summer school,
played the piano and took courses at various universities.
"Katie", along with her late husband Kay, was an active member of Amherst Heritage Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday-School, VacationBible School, and sang in the choir. Her hobbies included sewing,
painting, music, writing poetry and being with her friends and family here
and on Middle Bass Island.
Survivors include her sister Dorothy (Glen) Long, of Bluffton, OH and
daughters, Karen (Jim Barger) Harbin and Susan (Sean)
Callahan; granddaughters (triplets) Elysia, Isabella and Alexandra and
Karen’s Melissa; step-granddaughters, Lisa (Karl Rider) Canales and
Danyelle (Jamar) Miller; and a total of eight beautiful great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Kay
William Dickerson and her parents, Dr. W.E. Diller, MD and Florence (nee
Beidler) Diller.
The family is conducting a celebration of her life on Friday,
