Cloid Windmiller's Obituary
Cloid “Don” Windmiller, age 84, of Amherst, died on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at his home. He had been ill since May.
He was born on April 25, 1927, in Linn Grove, Indiana to the late Charles and Inez (nee Monce) Windmiller. He graduated from Central High School in North Manchester, Indiana in 1945. A Cleveland State graduate, he had earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History in 1969.
In 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Then in 1951 he was called again to serve the Navy and respectfully did so.
He worked at the Ford Headquarters in Detroit, and in 1957 was transferred to the Lorain Assembly Plant. He worked there until the Avon Lake Plant was being prepared to open, and he was transferred there. He worked at Ford as an industrial engineer for just over 33 years, retiring in 1989.
He regularly wrote letters to the editor of The Morning Journal newspaper, spending much time researching facts and topics about politics to support his views. He also was an avid reader. He and his wife, Norma, spent many years golfing together. He loved his grandchildren and spent much time with them.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma (nee Graham), his sons, William, of Marion, OH and Scott (Laura), of Dodge, Wisconsin; his daughter, Mary Jo (Kurt) Shalkhauser, of Amherst; his grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob and Lucas Shalkhauser; his brother, Arthur (Patricia), of Ossian, IN and a sister-in-law, Donna Windmiller, of Fort Wayne, IN.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale.
The family invites friends to join them at a memorial service on Wednesday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m., at Old Stone United Methodist Church, 553 S. Main Street, Amherst. Pastor Dan Reinke will officiate. Inurnment will be held on Thursday, August 4, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
