David Ritenaur's Obituary
David Bruce Ritenaur, 76, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, surrounded by his wife and sons. He had battled cancer for months.
David was born and raised in Lorain where, throughout his life he enjoyed a variety of jobs including working at the shipyards, the phone company, and Orkin; but Dave found his calling through his long career as a teacher where he was able to impact the lives of countless children over the years.
Dave was a loving husband and father who always made us feel safe and could make us laugh like no one else. Family was very important to him. Spending time talking, watching car shows, Josh Gates, and action movies, traveling, working on projects, and just being with his boys brought him great joy. Pizza parties and Root Beer Floats were always a favorite!
David loved Christmas and worked hard to make sure we all felt the magic of the season. It made him so happy to see the boys’ faces light up when they saw that Santa had come. He kept the tradition alive through all these years, and he can rest assured we will never forget it.
Dave enjoyed many hobbies including riding motorcycles, building things, going out for breakfast, and listening to Contemporary Christian music.
David was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities throughout the years. He had been a choir member and most recently was a drummer in the praise band. He served on many committees. He loved and was honored to be able to help in the planning and construction of the Family Life Center and Sanctuary.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Evamae Ritenaur, brother Leonard, and brother-in-law, Jerry Kurucz. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda, sons Andrew and Ryan (Janet), sisters Judy Kurucz and Kathy Kleinman (Joe), cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 26 at Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain. Reverend Adam Davis will officiate. Visitation 4-7 p.m. and service at 7p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church at the above address or to Hospice of Western Reserve, PO BOX 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192.
